Invisalign treatment is designed to gently guide your teeth into better alignment using a series of custom-made, clear aligners. Each new set of trays should fit snugly over your teeth. But what if your new aligners don’t seem to fit quite right? Or what if, after a while, you advance to a new set of trays only to find that they aren’t comfortably sliding over your teeth? While this can be concerning, there are a few steps you can take to address the issue and stay on track with your treatment. Here’s what you need to know.
Use Invisalign Chewies
Sometimes the liners don’t fit perfectly because your teeth simply haven’t fully shifted into their new positions yet. Invisalign chewies, which are small, spongy cylinders made of soft plastic, can help to seat your aligners better on your teeth. Simply bite down on a chewie in a different area of your mouth for several minutes each day to help your aligners fit more snugly. Your dentist can provide you with some of these, or they’re easy to purchase online or at a pharmacy or grocery store.
Revisit Previous Aligners
If the current aligner set doesn’t fit, even after a few days of using chewies or consistently wearing them, try out your previous trays for a day or two. This can sometimes help your teeth shift a little more before moving to the next step in the series. However, this is only a temporary measure and should be done under the guidance of your provider.
Let Your Provider Know
If your aligners continue to not fit correctly, feel too tight, or are causing discomfort that doesn’t improve, contact your provider at once. They might ask you to come in for a quick evaluation or make adjustments to your treatment plan. Teeth are sometimes stubborn, and if new aligners, refinements, or some other solution is needed, they’ll work with you to get things quickly back on track. Also, never try to force an aligner into place, period. Doing so can damage the tray, or worse, your teeth. If it takes more than gentle pressure to seat the tray, it’s time to stop and seek professional advice.
Remember, a proper fit is essential for your Invisalign trays to move your teeth effectively. When something feels off, it’s best not to wait it out; early action and professional intervention can help you avoid delays in your progress and ensure that your Invisalign journey is a resounding success!
